How to interact with the authorities, bystanders, and other members of our affinity group during a non-violent civil disobedience - why certain modes of behavior are encouraged and make for an effective action - what to expect when you are arrested and detained. 
 

Wall Street Action Scenario Discussion/Action Orientation Meeting

The who, what, where, when and why of the March 19 Wall Street Civil Disobedience - you should attend this if you wish to participate in the event.  Other affinity groups planning Wall Street actions are encouraged to attend to so we can coordinate and reinforce one another's events.
 

Ya Basta Outreach and March 19 Action Orientation

Discussion of Ya Basta philosophy and methods - the values they are promoting through their new style of protest and why they believe their street action techniques and distinctive presence will be effective - as well as the particulars of the actions the group is proposing for Monday, March 19 on Wall Street and possibly elsewhere.

The Peace Fair will begin at 11:30 am and go all day to sunset - a line of tables along 47th Street between First and Second Avenues (Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.) Volunteers needed!


Public Silent Group Meditation For Peace at the Labyrinth of Contemplation in Battery Park
TIME: 1:00 to 5:00 - visit website for weather-dependent changes.
LOCATION:  The Labyrinth of Contemplation - Northwest Corner of Battery Park at the base of West Street and the West Side Highway
 
Hoping to harness inner peace for world peace, this is an event that will let meditators, yoga practitioners, and others direct their spiritual energies into a dramatic and public statement for world peace.
 
We will assemble at the Labyrinth of Contemplation in Battery Park, engaging in silent meditation.  Individuals are free to come and go; children are welcome. Due to soggy ground conditions we are not able to use Central Park, as originally announced. Since the expected high on Sunday March 18 is only 40 degrees, we are shortening the duration to 4 hours - 1PM to 5PM. If the forecast improves significantly we may lengthen the meditation period - visit website night before action for actual schedule. Please dress appropriately in any event. 

SUBWAYS: Weekends 2 and 3 makes all regular downtown stops. Also making regular stops within walking distance are the 6, A, C, E, N, R, W and M and J.


UFPJ March Against the War

UFPJ/NYC are calling on New Yorkers to come into the streets in a massive local march. Time and location to be announced.  This is the first of what will hopefully be many marches organized by the local UFPJ.   Let New Yorkers honor the loss of innocent life in Iraq through a repeat of the show of force in the streets we displayed in response to the recent Sean Bell tragedy.

A Ride to End All Wars is an inter-borough bike ride for peace sponsored by Times Up (times-up.org) in conjunction with the March 19 Peace Actions Coalition (march19peaceactions.org). Feeder rides will start in the outer boroughs and converge in Manhattan to support the UFPJ anti-war march, marking the 5th year of the Iraq war.

Manhattan Ride Convergence: 12:30 PM Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, Second Ave. & E47th St.
 
This is a peaceful, anti-war ride. In this spirit, the tone of the ride is non-violent. Our attitude will be one of openness and respect toward all people, places and things we encounter on our bike ride. We will use no violence, verbal or physical toward any living being. We will not destroy or damage any property. We will respect traffic laws and signs as is deemed safe for the ride by ride leaders and participants. Not one more death, not one more dollar. Join us as we cycle against oil wars.

Wall Street Legal Protest and Civil Disobedience Monday Morning

NOTE: Please attend a Wall Street Civil Disobedience Training if you plan on being arrested, or the Wall Street Consulta or Spokescouncil if you are planning on coordinating with our action alone or as part of another affinity group.

The plan is to assemble at Vietnam Vets Memorial at 55 Water Street, where a press conference will be held. Small groups will then meander slowly through the Wall Street area carrying banners, signs and artwork denouncing the war profiteers, converging on the Stock Exchange around somewhat before 9:00 AM where part of the group will split off for a non-violent civil disobedience focusing attention on the economic forces that ultimately drive our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  

The March 19 Peace Actions Coalition Wall Street Working Group has consensed on the following Nonviolence Guidelines for their action:
For the purpose of building trust and a common foundation for safety, and ensure that we act in the spirit of nonviolence, participants in the action agree to the following:
    * Our attitude will be one of openness and respect toward people we encounter.
    * We will not use physical violence or verbal abuse toward any person.
    * We will not damage any property.
    * We will not bring or use any alcohol or drugs other than for medical purposes.
    * We will not carry weapons.

A New World in Our Hearts invites all to a march targeting the recruitment engine of the war machine, which makes false promises to those with the least so that they will fight a war for those with the most.

Bring your joy, outrage, and desire to see this war over. Bring noisemakers, drums, costumes, and a vision of a different future. Bring your songs, skits, pranks and signs. Bring your parents, kids, friends, and neighbors.

The march will proceed to the Armed Services Recruitment Center at 41 Flatbush Avenue.

Ground Zero Shock and Awe Ceremony

A solemn ceremony at Ground Zero, the site of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack, at the exact time and date of the beginning of the Shock and Awe assault on Baghdad, with a ceremonial event in memory of the victims of the invasion of Iraq the exact moment the attack began.

Students marching from Union Square to 72nd St. possibly 125th St., stopping at each army recruitment center on the way and shutting it down on March 20.   There is one in Union Square, Times Square, 72nd St. and Broadway, and on 125th St.

Weekend Actions at offices New York City Senators and Representatives.  Sit-ins following the model of The Center for Creative Non-Violence.
 
Continuous presence at military recruiting stations using online sign up procedure available to all motivated individuals - such as retirees and students free during normal working hours - who are not currently working through antiwar groups but wish to make a significant contribution to the resistance.  
 
Weekly Friday evening peace vigil at City Hall in Manhattan - a historical, dignified location with high visibility and incredible rush-hour foot traffic.
 
Cross-city march against the war.
 
Permitted weekly antiwar gathering in a New York City park - with music and sound system - every weekend through the spring and summer.
